Introduce Yourself:

Remember, this is still a standardized test. Introduce yourself as if you were the doctor taking care of this patient.

Informing the patient of the ultrasound:

Tell the patient you will be performing an ultrasound, and what body part they can expect to have examined. Warn them of cold gel and pressure when applying the probe. Don’t wipe gel off the patient, they will do that on their own.

Communicating with the examiner:

Ask for bed adjustments / patient positioning changes / probe selection and manipulation of gain, depth, or mode.
